John Villines PresentingJohn Villines has dedicated his adult life to security management and crime prevention, helping individuals, government agencies and commercial property owners reduce their vulnerability to crime by applying a vast body of knowledge he has acquired over the past several decades. Having started his career over thirty years ago as a patrol officer, he has built a national reputation as a crime prevention expert, bringing to the table a unique blend of academic and practical experience.

Academic achievements include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies, with a field of concentration in criminal justice, including focus on Defensible Space
  • Master of Science in Security Management
  • Completed post-graduate study in statistics and quantitative methods at Harvard (used in his ongoing research related to crime causation and environmental crime prevention).

Earned professional designations include:

  • CPP from ASIS International
  • PCI from ASIS International
  • PSP from ASIS International
  • ICPS from International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners

Public and Volunteer Service:

  • Named to the ASIS International Standards and Guidelines Commission in 2018
  • Appointed by the Governor to serve on the Georgia Board of Private Detective and Security Agencies
    • elected by his colleagues as Chair of that Board from 2004 to 2007 and again in 2010
    • Served through 2017 as a Cognizant Board Member

Maintains current board certification (State of Georgia) as an instructor for security and investigations.

A POST-certified instructor for advanced and specialized training of police officers, provided instruction in the following subjects:

  • Fundamentals of Crime Prevention
  • Preventing Motor Vehicle Theft
  • Conducting Crime Prevention Assessments

Thirty-year history supporting crime prevention activities:

  • Developed the first Crime Prevention Specialist training program for the State of Georgia (1981; 80-hour curriculum)
  • Authored "Personal Safety" chapter in the pre-certification study guide for the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners
  • Numerous community crime prevention presentations (pro bono)
  • Former Regional Director of Georgia Crime Prevention Association
  • Former Vice President of Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (Atlanta Chapter)

Joshua Villines

Joshua Villines

A threat assessment and investigations expert with over twenty five years of experience, Joshua's first collaborations with his father, John, were as a teenager working in his office. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Human Intelligence Group, but continues to collaborate with John on a wide range of cases, with a particular emphasis on workplace violence, active shooter, law enforcement training, and threat assessment.
